Holy Trinity is a congregation deeply rooted in recognizing Christ Jesus as our Lord and Savior. In fact, our Church is founded in the firm conviction that God’s people at Holy Trinity are called to Love, Live, & Share Christ.
Loving Christ - Holy Trinity gathers regularly to love Christ by worshiping regularly as we are encouraged in Scripture:
Come let us sing to the Lord; let us shout for joy to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before God’s presence with thanksgiving and raise a loud shout to the Lord . . . Let us worship and bow down let us kneel before the Lord our maker. (Psalm 95: 1-2, 6)
Our worship is joyful, prayerful, rich, and meaningful. In worship, we experience God’s Word (who is Christ Jesus) come to us in the story of salvation proclaimed (Word) and the story of salvation brought into our lives (Sacrament). We welcome new members into the family of God in Baptism. We partake of God’s true presence and are strengthened for our ministry in the world in Holy Communion. We pray for the needs of all God’s creation. We sing joyful songs to the Lord. We are built up in our faith and formed in our Christian identity.
We also believe that each of us is called to further our love for Christ through the practice of personal spiritual disciplines, which enhance both our discernment of, and willingness to follow Christ’s lead.
Living Christ-We believe that we are freed by what Jesus has done for us to be Jesus’ disciples in the North Liberty area. Our community will always struggle to better understand what it means to live in Christ in our particular context. For now, we are pretty sure it means praying with and for each other, doing good works for those in need, sharing of our abundant resources, and opening ourselves up to change and growth in the context of a Christian community of brothers and sisters.
Holy Trinity is a Lutheran Church, which means that we believe our understanding of the calling of God’s people is explained well in the Lutheran Confessions. We believe that humans are saved only by God’s grace through the faith of Christ Jesus. We believe that God became incarnate in Christ Jesus to redeem the world. We believe that the canonical Scriptures tell the story of God’s work throughout history. We believe that the orthodox creeds (the Apostles’, Nicene, and Athanasian creeds) are correct and faithful summaries of the Christian faith. We believe that every human is God’s own child - created and intended for a life of unity with God.
Sharing Christ- All are welcome to experience the grace of God at Holy Trinity! We follow the example of Jesus, who ministered not only to the righteous and the powerful, but especially to the sinner and the powerless. If you’ve been going to Church your whole life until recently, if you’ve never been to Church, if you’re ’spiritual’ but not ‘religious’, if you think Christians are often hypocritical, if you’re not sure what you believe, if you are rich or poor, if you are politically liberal or politically conservative, if you are abused or if you are an abuser - you ARE God’s child, and you ARE welcome at Holy Trinity.
Of course, this doesn’t mean you won’t be challenged to grow as a child of God at Holy Trinity. Christ sets us free FROM our sins FOR the free life of following Jesus. Part of the reason our congregation exists is our firm belief that we need brothers and sisters in Christ to help us learn to better follow God. Come experience this welcoming community of love - a community that wants you to come no matter what, a community that will love you far too much to let you stay exactly as you are
And while you're at it......
We need your prayer - Please pray for our community as we seek to become God's church. Pray that we will be faithful to God's purpose for us. Pray that we will reach out to those who are not part of a Christian fellowship. Pray that we will grow in faithfulness and in numbers. Pray that God will continue to guide us, especially in these first months and years, to set a tone and pace that is fruitful and faithful!
Reach out to others- If you know people without a Church home in the North Liberty area, consider sending us their contact information (ministry@holytrinityNL.org). Consider also inviting them to check out this website or to join us in worship. New visitors to a Christian community are almost always there because someone asked them to visit, so ask, ask, ask!
If you want to find out more, or if you want to experience this community of sinners and saints collected around God’s Word-made-flesh, come worship with us, or come to one of our other ministry events. We have been praying for you.
